My wife and I just vacationed at the El Dorado Royale from April 3rd to the 8th. This was my wife's first trip to Mexico, and she loved it! The whole experience was up to our expectations and in many ways surpassed them. The quality of the food, and its presentation was exceptional. I would also like to add that all the staff that we encountered during our stay were very friendly and helpful.

My wife and I stayed 7 days at this resort last summer.  That was in June and we've had time to get over the bliss and look back and reflect on the real vacation we had there.

It was great.  Our first adults only resort.  (we have 4 kids so all of our vacations were with young ones until they finally dropped out three years ago)

Our room was a ground floor suite.  Very nice.  30 yards from a pool we lived in, only 40 yard to the breakfast area daily.  A peahen came and roosted at our doorstep daily while we were there.  Even while my wife would read on the hammock outside.  Very cool hen.

The beach is not so nice,  get closer to Playa del Car or Playa del Carmen.  Here is was rocky and not a nice beach for wading and playing in the surf.  But there are abouit 11 pools available.  Our pool never had more than 14 people around at any one time.  Very peaceful and quiet.  The larger pools were also very quiet.  Adults (even the very young ones) do make a difference in the noise level.  Speakers were directed at the pool level and not out over the resort area.  Hence ... peaceful.

The food was great.  After 15 years of all inclusive resorts with ala carte eating, it was very pleasant to eat portions delivered  gormet style.  You can order 2 or 3 entrees and appizers if yoi like but we never went away hungry.  Wine for meals was the only downer for the week.  You had to pay extra for a pleasant wine.  Not a great wine just nice wines.  Too expensive.  But all the restuarants were very nice.  We made our reservations in the first two hours that we were there and never waited in line for any dinner.  The servers are polite and quick and the food is delicous.  I am an over weight fella but never asked for extra helpings at the table.  Each meal is a mnimum of 4 courses.

We are empty nesters and really enjoyed the peace and quiet of the week.  The last day of the trip a group came in from Louisiana and they were a bit loud but after a few drinks they too settled down and enjoyed the atmosphere.

We have this week booked another vacation with Karisma Hotels at the Maroma resort.  Just because my wife likes to venture out and see different hotels and resorts.   El Dorado is by far the best we've stayed at in Mexico.  Including the Moon Palace and other Palace Hotels.  Iberostar, etcetra.

If you are a first timer be sure and book at day trip to Chi Chanitza (sp)  it's great history and gives a super look into the Mayan culture.  Tulum isalso a great tour.  It's touristicized now but it's still a great place to see.

If money is no object, stay at the beach front casitas.  Your own outdoor shower, pool and bar.

Go and enjoy.

Hi -

My husband and I are returning to the Casitas in a couple of weeks- we loved it last March.

We were wondering if anyone has stayed in the Infinity Suites, or has any information on them. They look pretty slick!

Please email me with any info or if you are going to be at EDR March 29-April 5.

Can't wait to be there again!!

I absolutely loved my stay at the EDR... they gave us a free 90 minute tour on a golf cart and they even let us join the frequent traveller program!  My girlfriend and I just stayed for 4 days and 3 nights in a Jr jacuzzi suite... we ended up deciding to get married while there so we tied the knot in the south chapel on the grounds!!!!  Talk about a vacation to remember!  I will definately go to karisma resorts for our honeymoons.  They really treated us like royalty!  If you have anyquestions at all feel freel to email me at info@venetianmasksociety.com anytime.  I would be happy to tell you how to get a discounted stay too ;)

Another happy EDR guest!

My husband and I just returned from a week at EDR.....it was wonderful! I would recommend the Casitas,no wait for dinner!! Our concierge, Maria was great and Martha kept us neat and clean, Thank You both.

We stayed in the 3100s with Modesto as our bartender at the Albertros bar...I just can't say enough good things about him. If you see him try one of the "Modesto specials" you won't be disappointed! He made our stay very enjoyable. Everyone there was very polite and always smiling.

Hello to Fernando at the Italian resteraunt he was as new as we were to EDR and he did a fabulous job!

We met a lot of nice people from all over the world ...how cool is that! We made use of the Gym and the Spa and had a fabulous couples massage. Overall our stay was fantastic, we can't wait to go back...

Just came back from an amazing 1 week vacation at El Dorado Royale!  My travel agent, Jennifer Doncsecz at VIP Vacations, convinced us to try this resort...and wow am I glad she did.  The scenery was spectacular, the rooms relaxing and gorgeous and the food was simply delicious.  Everyone should try this resorts...very romantic too.  The white linens everywhere, beach beds, etc. are a nice touch!!  Anyone who is interested should contact my travel agent, I don't think she would mind me putting her email in here (jennifer@travelbyvip.com).  This is our 10th year with her and she has never steered us wrong.  Thank you Jennifer and thank you El Dorado Royale!

El Dorado Royale was absolutely amazing!!!  The resort is beautiful, and the food, drinks, pools, people etc were awesome. The person a few blogs down will complain about waiting for dinner for an hour and a half. Well that is why when you are on vacation you dont have to stick to a routine like going to dinner at 6 pm when EVERYONE ELSE has the same idea.  Change up your eating times by an hour or so and you will find like we did that in most cases you can just walk right in!!!  We stayed from jan 24 to jan 31 08  for our tenth anniversary and we cant wait to go back again.

We just booked our 2nd trip to EDR and are so excited to return.  We will be there July 3 - July 9, 2008.  This time around we are looking forward to staying in a Casita Suite.  Anyone else out there scheduled to go to EDR on those dates?  Would love to hear from you!
